FAQs

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

I work out of clinic in Takapuna, Auckland. See 'Contact' for more details.

DO YOU OFFER THERAPY ONLINE?

Yes, I can offer therapy online to those who cannot attend face-to-face sessions. These online sessions can be helpful if you live in rural areas, other cities in New Zealand or if you are unable to travel easily for whatever reason.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

No, you can self-refer. You may prefer for your GP to refer you though so they can stay informed.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO ATTEND SESSIONS?

Most people prefer either weekly or fortnightly sessions. Initially, I would encourage no longer than fortnightly gaps between sessions (unless mutually agreed upon), so we can maintain the consistency and momentum of therapy. I will aim to make the therapy process as brief as possible so you can learn to become your own therapist.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING TO SESSIONS?

Please bring a journal to record your goals, track your emotions and complete homework tasks. I highly recommend you purchase a copy of 'My Coping Skills Journal' so we can work through it in session. You can order here or you can purchase at your first appointment.

HOW DO I MAKE A PAYMENT?

You will be sent an invoice to make a bank transfer - either before the session or immediately after on the day of the session

Subsidies: Subsidies may be available via WINZ or your health insurance provider.

CAN YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?

No, you must consult your GP or psychiatrist for specialist medication advice.

**HELP! WHAT DO I DO IF I'M IN CRISIS?**

If you or someone you know are in danger, please reach out for support immediately.

If it is an emergency, ring 111, or go to your local hospital emergency department (ED).

Alternatively, you can phone your local DHB mental health crisis team (CATT Team)

http://www.health.govt.nz/your-health/services-and-support/health-care-services/mental-health-services/crisis-assessment-teams

or ring Healthline 0800 611 116 to get connected.

DO YOU TREAT CHILDREN?

At present, I am treating mainly adults in my private practice. I recommend asking your GP for local recommendations or searching the NZCCP online registry.

HOW DO I MAKE A BOOKING?

Please send general enquiries directly to me via:

HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?

Initial assessment is up to 1.5 hours duration.

Therapy sessions are approximately 50-60minutes duration.

WHAT DOES THE FIRST APPOINTMENT INVOLVE?

The first appointment will include completing some paperwork and discussing your current concerns. It will also involve a brief exploration of any past experiences that may contribute to your present situation. The aim is to gain an understanding of your triggers and set some goals. The following sessions are treatment-focused, which are often more practical and require you to complete ‘homework’ tasks between sessions.

CAN I BRING A SUPPORT PERSON?

Yes you are welcome to bring a support person.

CAN I BRING MY BABY/CHILD?

You are welcome to bring your children. However, if possible, I encourage you to attend your sessions without children so you can concentrate on yourself without distractions.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL A SESSION?

Cancellations can be made via email: dr.sarah.bellbooth@gmail.com.

Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel a session so I can offer it to someone else. If you cancel within 24 hours you will be charged the full session fee.

CAN YOU REFER ME TO OTHER CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGISTS IF YOU ARE FULLY BOOKED?

Yes! I have collaborated with other clinical psychologists to ensure people can access the appropriate treatment promptly. Contact me if you would like help finding local, individualised support.

WHO CAN I RING IF I WANT TO TALK TO SOMEONE AFTER-HOURS?

There are many helplines available. A few include: Lifeline 0800 543 354, Suicide Prevention Helpline 0508 828 865, or you can text/call 1737.
